Victoria (VIC)
With almost 2 000 kilometres of coastline and 184 islands, this very diverse state is situated in the south-eastern corner of Australia. Mist shrouded mountain ranges and fern filled gullies to rugged Southern Ocean beaches and sheltered bays. Bustling and busy to quiet and remote – Victoria has it all. |

Melbourne - Victoria's Capital
Melbourne an "Olde English" City
It is the country’s second most populated state with a population close to 5 million, 3 and half of which live in the state’s capital, Melbourne renowned for its great restaurants, cafes, bars and fashion shopping. The city was founded only in 1835 – somewhat as an afterthought to both Sydney and Hobart and yet fifteen years later, the state was booming with gold discoveries and the deluge of people from all over the world that resulted. Victoria also takes credit for the historic Eureka Rebellion and the infamous bushranger, Ned Kelly. |

The state’s landscape is a rich mix of cool-temperate rainforest areas (south west of Melbourne, around Geelong) to a series of forested hills, rivers, beaches, islands and peninsulas (east of Melbourne towards Wilsons Promontory). Between these two locations, one finds the scenic Great Ocean Road featuring the fabulous limestone Twelve Apostles originally known as The Sow and Piglets!
Victoria is also famous for some wonderfully delicate cheeses and a large variety of cool-climate wines grown in the Yarra Valley (situated north-east of Melbourne). From here there is a gradual climb into the High Country favoured by adventurous 19th century horsemen and in winter, by thousands of skiers in the beautiful vista of snowfields.

One of the state’s most loved places is the Grampians, part of the Great Dividing Range found amongst the wheat fields and Western District paddocks. This area boasts almost a quarter of Victoria’s flora and 8/10s of its Aboriginal rock art – a truly living gallery. |
